Many Homeland Security jobs are actually jobs that already existed and that used to be spread out into numerous industries. Today, many of these jobs have become unified as the result of the 9/11 attacks. In fact, many different occupations have been brought together in order to develop a more effective outcome.
Many homeland security jobs and career opportunities exist with federal, state, and local government agencies. But, there are also plenty of additional opportunities for Homeland Security jobs with private companies and nonprofit organizations. Traditional occupations with new values are now recognized as Homeland Security jobs. Criminal justice, emergency and disaster management, intelligence and security management are some existing occupations with a new take on their job descriptions since Homeland Security was officially developed.
Here are just a few of the Homeland Security jobs that people hold:
Water Protection. These workers are responsible for protecting our waterways and coastlines. Also, these workers enforce boating safety and respond to vessel incidents for any violent or criminal acts.
Border and Transportation Security. The main responsibility in this field is to prevent terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the United States. This job is also important for preventing illegal drugs and illegal aliens from entering our country.
Emergency Preparedness and Response. This is a vital category as the job’s main duty is mainly to protect lives and property, whether it is a result of terrorism or other natural disasters. A risk-based program of prevention, response, and recovery is a continuous effort to reduce the loss of life and protect our institutions. Strategies to prepare citizens are also a major role in this field.
Criminal Investigation and Protection. People employed in this field are hired by The United States Secret Service. Responsibilities in this field include protecting the President and the President’s family as well as other heads of state. This person also performs criminal investigations, strategizing our nation’s security whether it be a financial institution, identity fraud or computer-based attacks.
