Homeland Security Grants
Find Homeland Security Grants
Homeland Security grants are a growing necessity provided by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency and the Governor‘s Office of Homeland Security. As a high priority in our nation, environmental and public health professionals must work to protect us. Grants are given to states for new challenges that have now become vital in order to prepare, respond and monitor terrorist threats and natural disasters. The cost to do this is extremely high and funds need to be used from these sources in a proactive manner.
Homeland Security grants can redirect funds that are already given to the state. An example is funding for water, which can be used not only for testing the drinking quality but monies can also be used to test for harmful biological threats that may be found in our drinking water.
Homeland Security grants are also used to support the nation in order to be better prepared and to respond more effectively. Medical assets and evacuation plans are also covered under these grants. Funds allow organizations to upgrade equipment, which may include video surveillance and research technology.
Many argue that grants funded for 9/11 have not been spent wisely. Billions of dollars have been provided from Homeland Security grants but it is unclear as to how to better utilize the money. Homeland Security promises that grants will now be used more effectively and the entire country will receive its distribution of funds. Major cities such as New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Boston require additional grants as they are considered major targets for terrorist attacks while many other states are prone to natural disasters such as hurricanes and tornadoes.
There are numerous Homeland Security grants, such as environmental grants, which can be used for security evaluations and inspection programs for water and air. Grants are also provided to The Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program and the State Homeland Grant program to name a few.
